Now you know that I don't really get that fired up - but I must admit this particular website that I found through this ABC news online story really fired me up - and now that I have reflected on it - really disappointed me.

The website is called "Islamic Sydney" and the story was Misconceptions about Islam.

I found the website while listening to the podcast on this story:
ABC News online - Renovating Aussie Muslim style

The part of the article I read that I thought was incorrect was this:

Quote:
Violence of any kind towards women and forcing them
against their will for anything is not allowed. A
Muslim marriage is a simple, legal agreement in which either partner is free to include conditions. Marriage customs thus vary widely from country to country.
Divorce is not common, although it is acceptable as a last resort. According to Islam, a Muslim girl cannot be forced to marry against her will.

Now if you had read the discussion Ahmed and I had about 4:34 you can see that this is mutually exclusive to the quote mentioned above.

Anyway - thought you guys might be interested in this.

Hello mate

I'm not sure if those Muslims are talking about 4:34, if they do then they are wrong in two aspects:

1) the wife that should be beaten is the ill conduct wife not any wife

2) the beating is the last resort after exchusting another two options menti0oned in the same verse

3) during the first two options the wife can easily seek divorce and the husband should divorce her

i.e. the wife in control for not being beaten

therefore those Muslkims are only creating a new feel good religion which is not what the Quran is talking about

Salam
